Michael Lerch studied drawing and oil painting at the Loft Atelier and at Scottsdale Artists' School, both located in Arizona. He developed skills in both digital and analog photography, later teaching photography at the Oregon Society of Artists as well as curating their annual photography gallery show. 
His primary area of expertise is human figure, and he enjoys still life paintings and landscape photography as well. His interests also expand into literature and he completed the undergraduate program for English at Arizona State, concentrated on creative writing. Authors such as Flannery O'Conner, Mark Twain and Anne Rice influence his work which he characterizes as "Southern Gothic." 
He resides in Lafayette, Louisiana.
