Southern Gothic specializes in employing traditional techniques to create timeless artwork. Paintings are developed from a source photograph using a traditional palette of archival and lightfast oil paints on linen canvas.
Oil paintings provide a richer depth of color compared to acrylics and are perfect for those seeking a classical painting; however, a commissioned oil painting will take between two and four months before it can be varnished and shipped due to the slow drying time inherent in the process.
Price is dependent on size and complexity. Portraits containing more than one person or other complicating factors can be discussed via inquiry. Prices displayed include framing for a standard complexity portrait (pictured).
Photography services are also available to create an image to use in the development of a painting. It's very rare that an oil painter possesses a high degree of photography skills, and vice versa. A strong photograph will yield a beautiful painting, and we are happy to help make that happen.
