Phantasmagoria

Phantasmagoria was a form of horror theater in the late 1800s which used optical illusions to entertain crowds of people. This photography series explores that idea by developing haunting imagery on traditional film and developing prints in the darkroom.

Created for the summer photography exhibit at the Lafayette Art Gallery, this print was photographed using a long exposure, resulting in a haunting portrait. Very faintly, the left eye can be seen clearly offset from the visible one in the strong light, creating an unsettling image.
